Leaders from SSM Health in Southern Illinois recently completed a four-day “Healthcare Leadership for Mass Casualty Incidents” training at FEMA’s Center for Domestic Preparedness (CDP) in Anniston, AL. This hands-on training at the CDP’s Advanced Responder Training Complex equips responders to make critical decisions in realistic scenarios involving multiple casualties from natural, chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear, or explosive disasters. The training also addresses disease outbreaks. A few of the key skills acquired included the distribution of medical supplies, making difficult decisions, and understanding the requirements for various decontamination procedures.
